Your account and learning progress

When you create an account, we use your email address to manage sign in, confirmation and password recovery. Supabase provides our email and password authentication. Your profile can include your name, newsletter choice, account dates and saved lesson progress. We use these records to show your account and continue your learning. From 2 October 2026, reaching the end of an article while signed in also saves its page and completion date to your private reading history. Repeat reads count once. Published articles explicitly credited to your account can appear in My articles.

Sign in uses essential secure cookies. Display, sound and introductory lesson preferences may be saved in your browser. Clearing browser data removes those local preferences, but does not delete your account or progress already saved to it.

Tour enquiries

We save the contact details and travel information you submit so our team can review your request and reply. Requests can be sent to our team through Resend, our email provider. Please only include the information needed to discuss your trip. Submitting an enquiry does not subscribe you to a newsletter.

Newsletters are optional

The newsletter checkbox starts unchecked. We save your choice and the time it was recorded. You can change it in your account. Choosing not to receive newsletters does not prevent you from having an account or learning Icelandic.

Optional Google Analytics

We ask before loading Google Analytics on public pages. If you allow it, Google receives information about your browser and visit, including technical information such as your IP address, and uses cookies to measure visits and popular pages. We use the resulting reports to understand how people find and use this website.

Our tag sends the page path and title and the referring website origin. It does not send your account ID, email address, URL search text or tour form answers. Advertising personalization and Google Signals are disabled. Google Analytics does not run on our account or admin pages.

Use Analytics settings at the bottom of a public page to keep analytics off or withdraw permission. Withdrawal stops our measurement and clears this site's Google Analytics cookies. It does not erase information already sent to Google. Your choice is stored in this browser for up to 180 days. A Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal keeps Google Analytics off.

Separate page counts

We also keep daily totals of public page views and referring website names for up to 90 days. These counts do not use cookies, person identifiers, full referrer URLs or raw IP addresses. They are page counts, not a count of individual visitors. Account and admin pages are excluded. Recognised owner visits are excluded, with a local browser preference that continues after sign out. An arrival through our forwarding domains may include the domain name only in these counts. The temporary domain marker is removed from the address bar. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control also disable this counter.

Google Search Console supplies search performance reports, such as search queries, clicks and pages, separately from these website counts. It does not require an additional visitor tracking cookie on this site.

Services that support the website

Our hosting, account and email services process information needed to provide their functions. Network requests can include technical information such as IP addresses. Briefly retained hashed network counters help protect the enquiry form from repeated submissions. Private account records and enquiries are accessible only through protected services and the authorized site owner.

Maps and selected weather charts request information from their named providers when those features load. Their source links and credits identify the providers. Following an external link takes you to a website with its own privacy practices.

Questions or requests about your data

You can edit your newsletter preference in your account. To ask about access, correction or deletion of saved account or enquiry information, use our enquiry form and say that your message is a privacy request. We may need to verify that the information belongs to you. Do not send passwords through the form.
