2025 mapping
Published on 21 March 2026 by the Icelandic Meteorological Office and distributed by the Natural Science Institute of Iceland. This is the latest edition we verified on 27 September 2026. Turn on Crevasse areas above to see its three mapped categories.
The layer shows hazard zones rather than individual cracks. It does not confirm that unshaded ice is safe, and it is not a route planner. Glacier conditions can change before the reference map is revised.

Safetravel’s November 2025 notice describes new crevasses from the Dyngjujökull surge that are absent from these maps. Its summer 2025 Hofsjökull cauldron is also not included.
Check Safetravel’s latest glacier notices before going onto the ice. Crevasses may be hidden by snow. Glacier travel requires appropriate skills and equipment; visitors should arrange a qualified glacier guide.

Warning and road checks are planned for the morning, midday, afternoon and night, around 08:00, 12:00, 16:00 and 22:00 Iceland time. This is a periodically updated snapshot. New or changed warnings may appear at the official source before they appear here.
The homepage banner appears for an official yellow, orange or red weather warning, including a warning issued for a future period. It disappears when no unexpired weather warnings remain. Other natural hazard warnings are listed separately on this page.
Every check shows its time. If the last successful check is more than 12 hours old, or a check fails, the page labels the update as unavailable or overdue. Previously received warnings remain labelled with their check time until they expire. Road lines turn grey when their update is unavailable or overdue.
Warning data is supplied by the Icelandic Meteorological Office. The displayed check time is the download date and time. We adapt layout, date formatting and dash punctuation for this website, preserving numerical ranges and negative values. Read the original notice for the official wording. Data reuse terms ↗
