The published figure
The Icelandic Tourist Board’s release of 10 September 2026 reports 314 thousand departures of foreign passengers in August. The figure describes the reported month, not current visitor numbers at any specific destination.
What the number does not tell you
A national departure total cannot show whether a trail, restaurant or parking area will be busy on the day you visit. It also should not be treated as a count of people arriving today or a forecast for the rest of the year.
