The dates to put in your itinerary

Snæfellsjökull National Park’s winter arrangements affect two visitor centres and a popular beach stop. From 31 October, its announced daily centre hours are:

The toilets at Djúpalónssandur closed on 13 October for winter. The park says they will reopen in spring, without giving an exact date. It says toilets at the visitor centres remain available around the clock.

Plan the facilities stop separately

For independent drivers and guides planning a group day, our practical advice is to include a toilet stop in the route before reaching the beach. If you also want to speak to staff or visit an exhibition, arrange that part of the day within the centre’s opening hours. Toilet availability does not mean the rest of the building is staffed overnight.

Malarrif’s own visitor page distinguishes its outdoor toilets from additional facilities inside the centre. It also describes rangers providing information about the area. That makes a centre stop useful for checking the day’s plan as well as facilities.

Before leaving

Use the dated winter announcement when planning a visit after the changeover, and confirm arrangements with the park if your itinerary depends on a particular facility. The park’s travel guidance asks visitors to follow defined routes and recognises temporary closures of sensitive areas.

Check Travel conditions and the linked official services before setting out. Opening hours describe visitor services; they do not establish road or walking conditions for your chosen day.
