Know the area
Valshamar sits above holiday homes in Eilífsdalur in Kjós. The current route table includes both sport and traditional climbing. Read the style of the individual route instead of assuming every line has bolts.

Access and local responsibilities
The published landowner rules are no music, no climbing after 22:00, no groups, no cooking and no overnight stays. Do not use the private road through the holiday homes even if its gate is open. Check the designated approach and parking before arrival.
Published access notes can change. Use local signs and current landowner or club advice, alongside Safetravel alerts, road conditions and the weather forecast.
Selected routes
The source uses different grade formats in its older numbered list and newer route table. The selection below follows the individual records. The Rennilás record specifically describes a traditional route without a fixed anchor, so do not assume it has the same finish as adjacent sport climbs.
| Route and source | Source grade | Style | Sector or area | Published length |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kristján X ↗ | 4cFrench | Sport | Valshamar | 7 m |
| Augnablik ↗ | 7a+French | Sport | Valshamar | 11 m |
| Rennilás ↗ | 5.7YDS | Trad | Valshamar | 8 m |
Grades follow the cited records. They are not conversions or safety ratings. Missing lengths are left unspecified. This is a selection, not a complete route list. Confirm the line, equipment, protection, descent and current condition before climbing.
Photos and route lines
The area page links its guidebook and includes a numbered route list. Match the guide’s route numbers and features at the crag rather than choosing a line by its grade alone.

Fit it into your trip
Keep a flexible alternative for a wet or unsuitable day. Choose an objective that suits your whole party’s experience and leave time for the approach and return, not just the climbing.
