Choose the visit before choosing the time

Harpa’s own visitor information says admission to the building and Hljóðhimnar is free. You do not need to make a concert part of the day simply to visit the public building. That does not give you access to every hall or event. [1]

For a straightforward stop, explore the public spaces that are open when you arrive and look at the glass building from inside and outside. Treat any restricted area as separate, even if a photograph elsewhere shows visitors there.

If seeing performance spaces is the main reason for going, check the programme or guided tour information first. Harpa says its scheduled tours run in summer, with any additional dates announced separately. No tour dates listed means no scheduled tour to plan around. Do not assume an October visit includes a tour. [4]

Building hours are not a performance timetable

On 30 October 2026, Harpa’s official opening page lists the building as open Sunday to Tuesday from 10:00 to 18:00, and Wednesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 20:00. The box office is listed separately, daily from 10:00 to 18:00, with longer hours on event nights. [2]

Check that original page again before travelling. A concert time, restaurant schedule or old search listing is not a substitute for building hours. For a public visit, aim to arrive with time to look around before closing; this guide does not promise a fixed visit duration.

If an event is your priority, use its own admission arrangements and allow time for arrival. Free entry to the building does not mean that a performance or other activity is free.

Give Hljóðhimnar room in the plan

Hljóðhimnar is Harpa’s children’s sound play space on the ground floor. Harpa lists it as free and open during building hours. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The stated capacity is 30 people, and access may be controlled at busy times. [3]

For a family, that makes it an option rather than a guaranteed immediate activity. If it is full, ask staff about access and keep the rest of the visit flexible. For a larger group, do not build a tightly timed outing around everyone entering at once.

Plan the arrival and any assistance separately

Harpa is at Austurbakki 2 in central Reykjavík. Its official arrival guide covers walking, cycling, public transport and driving, including the nearby Lækjartorg stop and the underground car park connected to the building. Check your actual transport service rather than relying on a fixed journey time. [6] [7]

Harpa’s accessibility information describes lifts connecting the car park and floors. For a performance, wheelchair spaces need advance arrangement through the box office. Visitors who need assistance or hearing equipment should also contact the venue before choosing an event. Entering the building and arranging a suitable concert seat are different tasks. [5]

The map marks the building area using Visit Reykjavík’s published coordinates. It is not a survey of entrances, parking spaces or an accessible route. Confirm the final approach with the venue if that detail matters to your visit. [7]

Keep the waterfront optional

Our practical suggestion is to make Harpa one part of a city day, not a reason to hurry through several unrelated attractions. In comfortable weather, add a waterfront walk. If it is unpleasant outside, shorten the exposed section and keep the indoor visit within the published hours.
